Welcome to Mrs. Watkins's Distance Learning Math Class
Just as there are expectations for class when you are at school, there are expectations for distance learning class, too!
First, let's be patient with each other. Neither of us are accustomed to distance learning, so this is going to be a new experience for all of us. What is a good thing I see from all of this? We're ALL learning! I've gained a lot of technology skills in the past two weeks and I'm sure I'll gain more as we progress. What's a negative? That's easy! I miss seeing YOU!!! But we'll all make the best of it! This is a wonderful example of how learning continues regardless of one's age or situation.
My office hours are from 8:00 - 10:00 M-F. During this time, I will be available for questions and will attempt to answer student and parent emails. It is my intention to reply within 24 hours, excluding weekends. Students are expected to use ONLY their wcsmail.org account. Remember that your school email address is the first two letters of your first name, the first three letters of your last name, and the last three digits of your lunch number. So, if your name is: Iwannabe Inschool and your lunch number is 123456, your email address would be [email protected]. You are welcome and encouraged to send copy to your parent's email address as well. I will "reply all" when responding.
What's expected:
You will access assignments through Canvas. Pay attention to due dates for each lesson. Because this is new to all of us, we may need to adjust as we go, but for now, try your best to complete assignments as they are given. If you need help, let me know.
Parents:
When communicating with me, whether by phone or email, please include your child's full name. Remember that there is a total of 95 students in my daily math classes.
ZOOM sessions:
Yes, we're going to try this. I'm learning too. We'll have a "test run" Zoom meeting Friday, March 27th at 10:00 a.m. Check Canvas tomorrow morning regarding how to access. If you are unable to join our meeting it, it will be recorded and posted on Canvas later. Remember that DRESS CODE APPLIES when in a Zoom meeting. Everyone joining will be muted, but you will be able to type any questions for me that you may have. Also, ANYTHING that I shouldn't see in the classroom, I shouldn't see in Zoom. The only exception to this is that you can have gum. We may find that this method of "meeting" will not prove beneficial, and if so, they will not continue.
Grading:
Assignments are expected when due. For most assignments that are for practice only, an answer key will be supplied so you can see if you're on the right track. There will be NO RETESTING for any assignments. All assignments will be weighted equally. Students who fail to turn in assignments are considered to be "absent." Should you be absent, someone will be contacting you.
That's about it! Keep a schedule for yourself. This is going to require self-discipline, organization, and time management on your part. I hope to see you back in class soon!
